Yamada Hiroyo was born June 2, 1914. She studied Yamada-ryū koto and shamisen and Fujiue Ryū kokyū under Yamamuro Chiyoko and began teaching in 1932. In her 40+-year career, she was head of the Kintomo-kai, a member of the Chiyomi-kai, and a councillor of the Nihon Sankyoku Kyōkai.
