Born in Kōbe, March 24, 1910, Nakaiwa Kiyoko (Iwata Kiyoko) studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under Nakami Kiyoharu, earning her teaching license in 1926. She belonged to the Nihon Tōdō Ongaku-kai and the Seibi-kai, and was an active performer and teacher for almost 60 years.
