Born in Nagano City, March 6, 1914, Nakazawa Sumiko (Nakazawa Sumi) studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under Tokutake Taneko, earning her teaching license in 1930. Active as a teacher and performer for more than 50 years, she belonged to the Tōdō Ongaku-kai and was head of the Kinwa-kai.
