Born in Hyōgo Prefecture, April 23, 1937, Nakazato Genkei (Urai Rie) studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under Nakajima Genkyō, Kikuhara Hatsuko, and Ōtsuki Sōmei, earning her Shihan (teaching license) in 1958. She was a member of the Nihon Sōkyoku-kai, the Tōdō Ongaku-kai, the Hyōgo Prefecture Koto Association, and Kōbe Sankyoku Dōshi-kai.
