Born in Toyohara City, July 2, 1917, Nakadate Toyoteru (Nakadate Teruko) studied Yamada-ryū koto and shamisen under Sanagi Okatoyo. She took first place in the Tokyo Shimbun Sankyoku Competition. She started teaching in 1937 and belonged to the Hagioka-kai and was a councillor of the Kinyū-kai.
