Hayakawa Ryōichi was born in Tokyo, March 26, 1923. He studied Yamada-ryū koto and shamisen under Yamato Shōwa IV and Nakanoshima Kin’ichi. He graduated from the Tokyo Music School in 1946, and began teaching in 1948. He was the president of the Yamada-ryū Cosmos Society, a council member of the Nihon Sankyoku Kyō-kai, and a standing committee member of the Shinchō-kai.
