Born January 1, 1908 in Mie Prefecture, Higuchi Shōho (Higuchi Gen’o) studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under Sugimura Kengyō, Watanabe Kengyō, Nakaishi Kengyō, and Itō Renko. He started teaching in 1923. During a career spanning almost 60 years, he was Chairman of Seion-kai, a member of Tōdō-kai. Chairman of Tōdō-kai Kōei, chairman of Tsushi Ongaku-kai, head of the Mie Blind Musicians Association, among many others.
