Born February 25, 1905 in Fukuoka Prefecture, Hirano Katsuko (Hirano Kikue) studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under Matsuoka Mitsuo (Yoshizumi Miyama lineage). She began teaching in 1920 and was active in the Hōgaku world for almost 60 years.
