Born March 6, 1915 in Kanagawa Prefecture, Maekawa Toshiko studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under Sasaki Takako. An active performer and teacher for more than 50 years, she began teaching in 1931, and was head of the Chōshō-kai.
