Hori Utano (Hori Yōko) was born October 20, 1939 in Gifu Prefecture. She studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under Imao Utafumi and began teaching in 1969. She belonged to the Seiha Hōgaku-kai and the Sankyoku Gyōha-kai.
