Born January 8, 1915 in Hokkaido, Madokoro Kiyoi (Hinata Kinue) studied Yamada-ryū koto and shamisen under Imai Kuniko, Ebiko Mitsui, and Abiko Shōhō. She started teaching in 1947. She was an active performer and teacher for more than 40 years.
