Matsukawa Shizuka was born September 24, 1926 in Kitakyushu City. She studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under Isobe Yoshino, Ikesue Kimino, Yamazaki Teruko, and Fukami Sumiko and began teaching in 1960. She belonged to the Kyushu Miyagi Association and Kotobuki Association.
