Born February 27, 1947 in Shizuoka Prefecture, Yagi Shūmei (Yagi Kimiko) studied Yamada-ryū koto and shamisen under Yagi Kinui (her mother), Yoshida Junzō, Miyashita Shūretsu, and Miyashita Suzumu. She started teaching in 1966. She was the head of Shūmei-kai, and a member of Shisen-kai and Kinumori-kai.
