Akabane Itsushō (Akabane Shosei) was born May 3, 1939 in Nagano Prefecture. He studied Itsudō-ha Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Ikeda Itsuren and Inamura Itsumei. He received his Shihan (masters license) in 1940 and began teaching the same year. He was a member of the Shakuhachi Itsuren-kai.
