Born March 1, 1919 in Kumamoto, Kitazono Rokō (Kitazono Katsuki) studied Meian-ryū shakuhachi under Tsunoda Rogetsu I and Miyamoto Usaburō. He started teaching in 1951. He belonged to the Myoan Rogetsu-ha headquarters. He was active in the shakuhachi world for more than 40 years.
