Born June 1, 1908 in Saga Prefecture, Tomiyama Kōdō (Tomiyama Takeshi) studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Kiyota Shōdō. With a career spanning more than 50 years, he began teaching in 1955 and was a member of the Nagasaki Chikuyū-kai.
