Hotei Roho (Hotei Haruyoshi) was born January 15, 1909 in Osaka Prefecture. He studied Chikuho-ryū shakuhachi under Morita Shūho and Sakai Chikuō (Chikuho I). He started teaching in 1930. Over his 40+ year career he belonged to the Seibi-kai, was a director of the Osaka Sankyoku Association, and won the 1970 Expo Commemoration Award.
