Born in Shizuoka, July 9, 1905, Torii Tonami V (Torii Moto) studied Yamada-ryū koto and shamisen under her adoptive mother, Torii Tonami IV, Imai Keishō, Nakanoshima Shōsen, Nakanoshima Kin’ichi, and Yamato Shōwa. She received her teaching license in 1930. During a career spanning more than six decades, she was head of the Yōna-kai and a planning committee member of the Nihon Sankyoku Kyōkai. She passed away on March 19, 1992.
