Kunishima Shūjun (Kunishima Junko) was born in Tokyo, January 24, 1943. She studied Yamada-ryū shamisen and koto under Miyashita Shūretsu and earned her teaching license in 1957. A graduate of the 9th class of the NHK Hōgaku Seminars, she was a member of the Shūretsu-sha, and a lecturer at Wakayama Shin-ai Women's Junior College.
