Miyake Utamichi (Miyake Michiko) was born January 15, 1927 in Niigata Prefecture. She studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under Miyagi Michio, Miyagi Kiyoko, Nakajima Utashito, and shamisen with Inoue Michiko. She began teaching in 1945. She was a councillor of the Fourth District of the Seiha Hōgaku-kai, assistant professor at the Seiha Music Academy, and head of the Akatsuki-kai.
