Takizawa Sumiko was born in Nagano Prefecture, May 13, 1913. She studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under Fukuda Eika, earning her teaching license in 1935. She was the head of the Fukuju-kai, a council member of the Nihon Sankyoku Kyōkai, and a member of the Ikuta-kai and Mitsu-no-Oto-kai. She was active as both a performer and teacher for more than 50 years.
