Born in Osaka, November, 1930. Became a student of Hoshida Ichizan I in 1953 and earned his Shihan in 1958. First place in the 1960 Tozan Ryu Honkyoku competition. Performed his first solo concert in 1962. A recording artist for both Japanese Victor Corp. and Sony, he became well-known for his television and commercial work. With over 50 years of experience with shakuhachi, his energies turned to honing his skills as a shakuhachi maker.
