Kikuzawa Shōfū (Nagata Shirō) was born in Kōbe, February 28, 1892. He studied Ikuta-ryū shamisen and koto under Chiyozawa Kengyō and Kikunishi Kengyō and began teaching in 1912. A performer and teacher for over 60 years, he was a chairman of the Tōdō Ongaku-kai and the Ōsaka Sankyoku Kyōkai, and a recipient of the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Fourth Class.
