Mitsui Ranzan

Mitsui Ranzan began shakuhachi at the age of 15, studying under Hata Hyōzan and Nomura Hōzan. She passed the Tozan-ryū shakuhachi Masters examination with the highest score possible, and also completed the NHK Hōgaku skills training program. Aside from performances, she also teaches shakuhachi, including at cultural workshops hosted by the local city cultural association. While cherishing the shakuhachi Honkyoku repertoire, she collaborates often in a wide variety of artists and diverse music. In January of 2017, she performed in the National Theater's New Year's Kabuki production "Shiranui Tan". She is a member of the Japanese-Western ensemble Benten COZO and a supporting member of the Bakurocho Band.
