Nankōbō Tamami

Born in Yokosuka City, January 1, 1924, Nankōbō Tamami (Teshigawara Chizuko) studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under her father, Teshigawara Issui, earning her Shihan (teaching license) in 1955. Active as a performer and teacher for more than 40 years, she was head of the Shikin-kai and an advisor to the Nihon Sankyoku Kyōkai.
