Satō Toshise (Satō Toshi) was born June 5, 1917. She studied Yamada-ryū shamisen and koto under Yamase Shōin II, earning her teaching license in 1946. She graduated from the second class of the NHK Hōgaku Skills Training Program in 1956. A performer and teacher for more than 40 years, she was the chairman of the Shunyo-kai, a director of the Seiin-kai, and a council member of the Nihon Sankyoku Kyōkai.
