Fujita Setsuko (Yamada Setsuko) was born July 24, 1928 in Tokyo. A graduate of the Tokyo College of Music, she studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under Miyagi Michio and began teaching in 1949. She was a councillor of the Miyagi-kai, head of the Toen-kai, and a councillor of the Nihon Sankyoku Kyōkai.
