Tatsumi Gyōki (Ryūsen Hisashi) was born February 5, 1926. He studied Ueda-ryū shakuhachi under Horii Kojiro and Ueda Hōdō and began teaching in 1956. He was a councilor with the Kanto branch of the Ueda-ryū.
