Born February 11, 1926 in Shiga Prefecture, Hishida Shindō (Hishida Kōji) studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Kaneyasu Tōdō, Sata Shōdō, and Sata Kyōdō. He started teaching in 1950. He was a member of the Otsu branch of Nippon Chikudō Gakkan and the Shoyu-kai as well as a councilor of the Shiga Prefecture Sankyoku Association and secretary of the Kusatsu and Moriyama City Sankyoku Association.
