Kumamaru Shizuka was born in Hiroshima Prefecture, January 30, 1927.
She studied Ikuta-ryū shamisen and koto under Miyagi Michio and Ono Mamoru, earning her teaching license in 1952.
She was a member of the Sōmei Ongaku-kai.
