Kozawa Kokuka (Kozawa Sada) was born March 30, 1896 in Mito City. She studied Yamada-ryū shamisen and koto under Ishitani Kōtō and Hagioka Shōin I, earning her Shihan (masters license) in 1916. She was the head of the Mutsumi-kai and president of the Ibaraki Sankyoku Kyōkai. She received an award from the Governor of Ibaraki Prefecture as a teacher for the physically disabled.
