Born in Nagano Prefecture, October 12, 1944, Nakami Kōyoshimasa (Kawakami Yoshimasa) studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under Nakami Kiyoharu. He started teaching in 1970 and belonged to the Nihon Tōdō Ongaku-kai and the Seibi-kai.
