Ikuta-ryū Born May 9, 1935 in Shimane Prefecture, Funakoshi Kō studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under Kikuto Akiko, Furukawa Isono, Fujita Setsuko, and Kobashi Mikiko and began teaching in 1957. She was a graduate of the Tokyo University of the Arts in 1958 and belonged to the Chūgoku branch of the Miyagi-kai.
