Born March 1, 1932 in Kyoto City, Mito Ginshi (Mito Kyoko) studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under Hagiwara Seigin, and her mother Mito Ryūko. She started teaching in 1954 and belonged to the Kyoto Tōdō-kai.
