Born December 5, 1948 in Shizuoka Prefecture, Yagi Kokinui (Yagi Takako) studied Yamada-ryū koto and shamisen under Yagi Kinui (her mother). She started teaching in 1970. She was a lecturer at Shizuoka Seika High School, and belonged to the Kinumori-kai.
