Tanaka Fujie (Tanaka Eiko) was born in Fukuoka Prefecture, November 21, 1893. She studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under Satō Masakazu and Kitani Toshie, earning her teaching credentials in 1933. Active as a performer and teacher for more than 60 years, she received the Order of Merit of Arts and Culture from the Zenkoku Hōgaku Buyō Rengō-kai (National Traditional Japanese Music and Dance Association), was vice president of the Saitama Hōgaku Buyō Kyōkai, and head of the Sōyō-kai.
