Azuma Gifū (Azuma Yoshitaka) was born April 21, 1929 in Fukui Prefecture. He studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Satō Seibi and Kurihara Kōdō. He began his teaching career in 1960 and was a member of the Bifū-kai.
