Born February 15, 1927 in Aichi Prefecture, Kinoshita Kōzan (Kinoshita Sumio) studied Kōzan-ryū shakuhachi under Ogawa Fūzan and Hiratsuka Kōzan I. He started teaching in 1949 and was affiliated with the Korei Hōgaku-kai.
