Born October 28, 1910 in Niigata City, Tani Nyosei (Tani Keisaku) had a shakuhachi career spanning five decades. He studied Kinko-ryū and Meian-ryū shakuhachi under Jin Nyodō. He started teaching in 1948. He belonged to the Nyodo-kai.
