Born October 21, 1926 in Gifu Prefecture, Matsuba Itsusei (Matsuba Hiroshi) studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Imao Itsuha. He began teaching in 1949. He was a director of the Sankyoku Itsuha-kai Shakuhachi.
