Yamazaki Dōzan (Yamazaki Masashi) was born May 31, 1926 in Shimane Prefecture. He studied Tozan-ryū shakuhachi under Yamazaki Hokuzan. He received his instructors license and began teaching in 1948. He belonged to the Fukuoka Prefecture branch of the Tozan-ryu Shakuhachi Gaku-kai.
