Born in Kanagawa Prefecture, January 23, 1943, Tanabe Sonoyuka (Tanabe Tomoko) Studied Yamada-ryū koto and shamisen under Yamakawa Enshō, earning her Shihan (masters license) in 1963. She graduated from the 13th class of the NHK Ikusei-kai and was a member of the Shunwa-kai.
