Born in 1872, Watanabe Masayuki (Watanabe Shotarō) lost his eyesight when he was a child, and entered the music department at the Kyoto Prefectural School for the Blind and Deaf in 1882. He was under the guidance of Furukawa Takisai and continued to study after graduation. After the death of his teacher in 1908, he became a teacher at his alma mater. He died on February 25, 1931.
