Born in Kyoto, April 5, 1912, Sasagawa Shizue studied Ikuta-ryū shamisen and koto under Sasao Takenoto (shamisen) and Tosa Maki (koto). She was active as a performer and teacher for more than 60 years, and a member of the Kyoto branch of the Nihon Tōdō Ongaku-kai as well as the Joryū Kyōkai. She passed away February 23, 2003.
