Born July 4, 1916 in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, Hosoya Kōka (Hosoya Chiyoko) studied Yamada-ryū koto and shamisen under Sasaki Shōha (Hagioka lineage). She started teaching in 1949. She belonged to the Shōfū-kai and Hagioka-kai, and was active as a performer and teacher for 50 years.
