Born April 13, 1899 in Hamamatsu City, Mizuno Utano (Mizuno Kikue) studied Yamada-ryū koto and shamisen under Nakanoshima Kin’ichi and Nakanoshima Keiko. She received her teacher certification from Murata Shōsen in 1927. She was a council member of the Nakanoshima Company and Nihon Sankyoku Kyōkai.
