Born April 1, 1912 in Kagoshima Prefecture, Yamashita Masatoki (Yamashita Toki) studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under Takarabe Masaki. She started teaching in 1964. She was active as a performer and teacher for more than 50 years and belonged to the Hatsune-kai.
