Born April 20, 1896 in Iwate Prefecture, Ōnami Yōmei (Ōnami Yasuzō) studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Yamaguchi Shirō. He belonged to Chikumeisha and was active in the shakuhachi world for more than 40 years.
