Shimoo Gyokuho (Shimoo Takeji) was born December 26, 1920 in Osaka Prefecture. He studied Chikuho-ryū shakuhachi under Sakai Chikuō (Sakai Chikuho I). He became an instructor in 1966. He was head of the Gyoho-kai, a member of the Seibi-kai, and Tōyō Ongaku-kai.
