Shimamoto Chōfū (Shimamoto Shigeru) was born October 4th, 1922 in Nara Prefecture. He studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Satō Seibi and began teaching in 1969. He was a member at the Bifū-kai headquarters and was the director of the Bifū-kai newsletter.
